storytelling

We all like to watch  movies. Movies are being played in movie theatres and in homes everyday. I love to watch movies and I have a couple of movies that I can watch all day long and its just like I haven't seen the movie before. My most favorite movie that I enjoy watching is, "House Party".  The comedy House Party was released in 1990. The movie was written and directed by Reginald Hudlin and produced by Gerald T. Olsen and Warrington Hudlin. The film starred Kid n' Play, Full Force, Robin Harris, and Martin Lawrence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_Party_(film)
The movie House Party is about high school kids name Christopher "kid" played by Christopher Reid and his friend Peter played by Christopher Reid.  Peter's parents are gone out of town and he has the house to himself so he decided to invite the kids from school to his house for a house party on a school night. Kid decides to go to the party, but ends up getting into a altercation while at school that day with three guys name Stab, Pee-Wee, and Zilla. After the altercation Christopher and Stab are sent to the office to explain why they were fighting the principle informs Kid that his father will be notified. Kid tries to get home from school to make sure his father doesn't find out that he got in trouble at school. When he gets home, he ask his father can he go to Peter's party, his father gives him permission to go until the mailman delivers the mail which is a letter from the school informing his father about the altercation. Christopher's father then informs him that he can't go to the party, but later that evening while his father is asleep he sneaks out of the house to attend the party. That night on the way to party he gets into another altercation with Stab that he gets out of and finally makes it to the party.  The party was great. Later that night, his father awakes to find him gone. His father goes out searching for him, he even went to the party. When Christopher arrives home from the party he thinks he got away with sneaking out but as he takes off his clothes and get into bed his father is standing at his bedroom door with a belt.

Creating a story or a movie is interesting and requires lots of work. When watching a good movie do you ever think how did the writer come up with the idea to make a great movie?' Novelist K.M. Weiland states, "our discussion of story structure very naturally begins at the beginning and at the beginning of any good story is its hook (Weiland p. 338)". According to Weiland, " the hook comes in forms, but stripped down to its lowest denominator, its nothing more or less than a question. If we can pique our readers' curiosity, we've got 'em (Weiland p. 338)." Weiland says, "the beginning of every story should present character, setting, and conflict (Weiland p. 338)." According to Weiland, no surefire pattern exists for the perfect opening, most good beginnings share the following traits (Weiland P. 338)."  The following traits are: they don't open before the beginning, they open with characters, preferably the protagonist, they open with conflict, they open with movement, they establish the setting, they orient readers with an "establishing" shot, and they set the tone (Weiland p.338-339). The movie House Party following traits are: the movie sets the tone and the movie opens with conflict. Opening with conflict, "doesn't always mean nuclear warheads going off, but it does demand our characters be at odds with someone or something right from the get-go. Conflict keeps the pages turning, and turning pages are nowhere more important than in the beginning (Weiland p. 339)". Setting the tone means, "you need to give the readers accurate presuppositions about the type of tale they're going to be reading. Your beginning needs to set the stage for the denouement without, of course, giving it away (Weiland p. 339)." According to Weiland, "if your beginning doesn't fulfill all it's requirements, readers won't get far enough to discover your story's hidden merits (Weiland p. 338)".
The comedy House Party is a very good movie. I have watched this movie so much I messed up two DVD's and even a VCR tape, I now have to wait for the movie to come on television, because I can't find the movie anywhere, but you don't have to take my word for it, just look at the movie trailer below to see for yourself.
